Strategic directions

VicRoads Strategic Directions 2010-2012 outline how VicRoads is meeting the government's transport priorities over this period.  

The directions set out the focus for transport system and organisational improvement by VicRoads. They guide the development of programs, projects and policies that address the challenges facing the transport system in ways consistent with the needs of customers, expectations of stakeholders and our brand and corporate values.  

The seven directions are supported by outcomes, which can measure progress and objectives against which actions can be delivered. As a companion to the directions document, an annual business plan is prepared highlighting the major initiatives and accountabilities against these outcomes.  

The directions are:

  • provide reliable access and minimise congestion
  • improve road safety
  • make the transport system more sustainable
  • improve asset management
  • collect, manage and use information to better support decision making
  • improve customer service and community engagement
  • develop organisational capability and culture

VicRoads will regularly review the directions to ensure they remain relevant and reflect government priorities.

HR strategy - Growing Talent Delivering Results
Growing Talent Delivering Results is a strategy developed to help all VicRoads managers and staff achieve and enjoy the best possible work environment and make the best contribution to achieving our business objectives. The strategy will help us build a positive management culture, achieve our strategic directions, enjoy our work and hence attract and retain the workforce we need for sustainable success. The strategy emphasises how important it is to develop all our staff. VicRoads Strategic Directions includes a direction to “Develop our organisational capability”. This strategy identifies actions and initiatives for each outcome and identifies what success in achieving objectives will look like.

Information Management and Technology Strategy 2010-2013
Information management and technology (IM&T) is a key business enabler in delivering VicRoads Strategic Directions. This Strategy defines the strategic direction for IM&T investment and establishes the framework to identify and prioritise IM&T investments across VicRoads. The Strategy applies to all holders of information assets and associated technology across VicRoads.
