The third section of the M80 Ring Road to be upgraded is from Edgars Road to Plenty Road in Bundoora. The contract for these works has been awarded to Fulton Hogan. Major construction works are expected to commence early 2012 and be completed by mid 2014.
Improvements will include:
- Building an additional lane in each direction creating three lanes each way plus a fourth lane between interchanges
- Bridge widening and strengthening to carry the additional lanes
- Resurfacing works to create a safer driving environment
- Traffic lights on entry ramps
- Overhead electronic signs to communicate speed limits and lane availability
- Electronic on-road message boards
- Planting and feature walls, creating a new look and feel to the road.

A site office has been established at Comalco Court Thomastown.
Concrete barriers are now in place to create a safe work zone on the M80 Ring Road between Edgars Road and east of Dalton Road. Major construction works on the freeway will begin at the end of April 2012 and will involve widening in the centre of the freeway.
Works have started to set up construction sites at High Street and Dalton Road. This involves changing the traffic conditions under the M80 Ring Road to allow workers safe access to the bridge overhead.
From 23 April to end of July 2012, works will involve constructing new foundations for the widening of the High Street and Dalton Road bridges on the Ring Road. This will involve drilling holes into the ground.
During these works, there will be noise and vibration from the drilling under the bridge area and the majority of these works will be done during the day between 7am and 6pm. Some night works will be required and residents and businesses will be notified in advance.
Works may be delayed due to wet weather conditions.
