VicRoads is committed to making the transport system more sustainable. We will achieve this by minimising the environmental and amenity impacts of road based transport, encouraging the shift to more sustainable transport modes, making the current transport system more efficient and reducing the environmental footprint of our operations and facilities.

Sustainability and climate change - Our Sustainability and Climate Change Policy, Strategy and Action Plan detail how we provide, operate and maintain a more sustainable road system.

Greenhouse - We are working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Our initiatives aim to improve energy efficiency, increase renewable energy used in street lighting, and reduce energy in road design.

Noise -  We are committed to minimising construction and traffic noise impacts on residents near freeways and arterial roads.

Biodiversity - We avoid, minimise and offset impacts to native plants. We maintain roadside vegetation to help protect Victoria’s biodiversity

Recent Events - The recent events detail recent seminars, conferences and other events around Sustainability and Climate Change.

Cultural heritage - Our management strategies help us identify and protect cultural heritage values.

Native title - The land rights of Indigenous peoples are addressed on all road projects

Resources & recycling - We are committed to using recycled materials in road construction where possible.

Water - We protect groundwater and waterways through best practice site management. Recycled water is our main water source in construction and maintenance. You can register your recycled water source for us to use in road projects

Site environmental management - VicRoads works to avoid or, if possible, minimise the impacts of construction and maintenance activities on the environment.
