Road trains comprising two trailers, up to 36.5 metres overall length, built to the construction standards and loaded to the mass and dimension limits described in the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2009, may travel on approved road train routes.
Road train routes are listed listed in the Victoria Government Gazette in Special Notice S6 6 January 2010. The approved routes are as follows:

Adams Street, Mildura

Buronga–Mildura South Road, Mildura (Benetook Avenue and Seventh Street East), between Adams Street and the Sturt Highway

Cureton Avenue, Mildura (between Sturt Highway and Seventh Street East for south bound travel only)

Sturt Highway between Buronga–Mildura South Road (Benetook Avenue) and the New South Wales border, Mildura
-
Calder Highway, between the New South Wales border at Yelta (Abbotsford Bridge) and Meridian Road
-
Meridian Road, between the Calder Highway and the last access point into the Grain Corp receival bunkers at Yelta, no further than the intersection of Old Mail Road.
Road trains may also be eligible to use the following arterial roads under a VicRoads permit:
- Calder Highway between Ouyen and Mildura;
- Calder Highway between Yelta and the inter-modal terminal at Merbein;
- Mallee Highway between Ouyen and Piangil;
- Murray Valley Highway between Piangil and NSW border at Robinvale;
- Buronga - Mildura South Road (Benetook Avenue) between Adams Street and Calder Highway;
- Hattah – Robinvale Road between Calder Highway and Bannerton;
- Robinvale - Sea Lake Road bewteen Bannerton and Robinvale;
- Red Cliffs – Colignan Road; and
- Sturt Highway from Seventeenth Street, Mildura, to the South Australian border.
Operators of vehicles wishing to travel on these additional roads must apply to VicRoads for a permit. The permit will list the applicable roads and may contain specific operating conditions. For travel on sections of local roads, for the purposes of access to properties, written approval must be obtained from the Rural City of Mildura or the Rural City of Swan Hill, as appropriate.
