VicRoads and the Department of Transport are improving bus stops along SmartBus routes and undertaking bus priority work to make our roads more 'bus friendly'.
SmartBus is a premium bus service that provides:
- more frequent services
- longer operating hours
- safer and easier access to buses
- a direct service along major arterial roads
- connections to train stations, tram lines, schools, universities, hospitals, shopping centres and other activity centres.
Bus priority projects create a more reliable public transport system by helping buses run on time. Bus priority measures include bus lanes, traffic light priority and changes to parking. Read more about current bus priority projects.
Existing bus stops are being upgraded and some new bus stops built along current and future SmartBus routes. This ensures that passengers have improved waiting areas and safer and easier access to buses. Read more about bus stop improvements.
