The Vehicle Status Check and Vehicle Information Package services are a quick and easy way to get information about a used vehicle.
Vehicle Status Check is a
free service. It will instantly tell you:
- if the vehicle registration is current, expired, suspended or cancelled
- if the vehicle has been recorded as stolen
- if the vehicle has been recorded as written off
- if there is a registered security interest recorded on the vehicle (money owing).
A Vehicle Status Check does not include a Certificate of Registered Security Interest. It will not protect you from repossession by a financial institution.
A Vehicle Information Package will instantly tell you:
- if the vehicle registration is current, expired, suspended or cancelled
- if the vehicle has been recorded as stolen
- details of if the vehicle has been written off
- details of any registered security interests recorded on the vehicle
- how many times the vehicle has been transferred.
A VIP costs $24.00.
A Certificate of Registered Security Interest is included with a VIP. This will protect you from repossession by a financial institution only if the vehicle is purchased within 24 hours of its issue and the vehicle details (VIN, engine number and registration) on the certificate match those on the vehicle.
