Benefits

Improvements for tram services

  • The construction of a a pair of platform tram stop, replacing the existing stop on Elizabeth Street at Pelham Street (stop No. 9), has improved safety for passengers on routes 19 and 59.
  • The raised platform tram stops have been constructed to Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) standards and includes pedestrian crossings at both ends.

Changes to tram stops No. 8 and 13

Following wide community consultation on improving safety and tram travel times along this important public transport corridor, the State Government has decided that tram stop No. 8 on Elizabeth Street at Queensberry Street and stop No. 13 on Flemington Road near the Haymarket Roundabout will be closed. This will take effect from early December 2011.

Taking away these older style stops, trams will be able to travel more reliably and with fewer delays from the new platform tram stop No. 9 to the platform tram stops in either direction at The Royal Women's Hospital (stop No. 14) and the Queen Victoria Market (stop No. 7).
