On-the-spot fines for pedestrians

From 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012 an on-the-spot fine of $61 applies to pedestrians who commit the following offences:

  • Crosses against an amber or red traffic light 
  • Crosses against a ‘don't walk’ sign 
  • Crosses the road within 20 metres of a pedestrian crossing 
  • Fails to cross to the nearest edge of the road after getting off a tram 
  • Fails to obey a traffic instruction from a police officer 
  • Fails to use the shortest or most direct route across a road 
  • Alights from a moving vehicle 
  • Walks along or fail to give way when crossing a bicycle path 
  • Walks improperly on a road 
  • Crosses a level crossing when not permitted 
  • Disobeys a 'no pedestrian' sign.
Make sure you obey the law to avoid fines.
