From 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012 an on-the-spot fine of $61 applies to pedestrians who commit the following offences:
- Crosses against an amber or red traffic light
- Crosses against a ‘don't walk’ sign
- Crosses the road within 20 metres of a pedestrian crossing
- Fails to cross to the nearest edge of the road after getting off a tram
- Fails to obey a traffic instruction from a police officer
- Fails to use the shortest or most direct route across a road
- Alights from a moving vehicle
- Walks along or fail to give way when crossing a bicycle path
- Walks improperly on a road
- Crosses a level crossing when not permitted
- Disobeys a 'no pedestrian' sign.
