Clearways
Some main roads have considerably more traffic during peak hours and these roads have been designated as clearways. A clearway indicates a section of road where parking and stopping is strictly prohibited for given times indicated by the clearway sign.

Vehicles parked in clearway zones during the restricted times will be towed away to ensure a free flow of traffic and the safety of other road users.

Towing Update

1 July 2011

Stonnington Council today handed over operation of clearway towing to VicRoads.

Clearway times will not change and remain at originally signed times.

The roads that are being handed over to VicRoads are:

  • Chapel Street – Toorak Road to Alexander Avenue
  • Williams Road
  • Orrong Road – Dandenong Road to Toorak Road
  • Punt Road
  • Commercial Road
  • Malvern Road
  • High Street
  • Wattletree Road
  • Dandenong Road

Towing has always been enforced on these roads during clearways times however VicRoads is now taking over the administrative duties associated with enforcement. Clearway times continue to play a vital role in managing Melbourne’s traffic, so VicRoads advises motorists to carefully check the clearway operation times when parking to ensure they are not fined.

Costs/fees*
If you park in a clearway during restricted times and your vehicle is towed away the fees include*:

  • $322 release fee if your vehicle has been towed
  • If you do not collect your vehicle within 4 days a $12.90 storage fee for each day following that until collection.
