Passkeys
Adding a passkey to your account will mean your account has more security.
A passkey is a secure and easy alternative to logging in with a password and two-step verification. Instead of using a password, your phone, computer or other device will use your fingerprint, Face ID or PIN number to verify your identity and log you in.
Your passkey is stored on your device, and is unique to your myVicRoads account, adding an extra layer of security. We do not store your passkey or your biometric data in our systems at all.
Compatible devices
You can use a passkey on your phone, computer or tablet, if it is compatible.
Passkeys are available on:
- Apple iPhones and iPads running iOS 16+
- Android phones and tablets running Android 9+
- Apple computers running macOS 13+
- Windows computers running Windows 11.
How to set up a passkey
When you sign into myVicRoads using two-step verification, you’ll be asked if you want to set up your passkey. All you need to do is follow the steps.
Make sure your phone, computer or tablet has fingerprint recognition, Face ID or PIN number activated. You can easily set this up in the settings.
Managing your passkey
Changing your device
Your passkey should work across multiple devices with the same Apple ID, Google Password Manager or Windows login.
If your new device doesn’t have the same Apple ID, Google Password Manager or Windows login, you can still use the passkey on your old device to log in.
When you log in on the new device, select “Use a different phone or tablet” and a QR code will appear on the screen. You can use your old device with the passkey on it to scan the QR code and log in.
You will then be able to add the new device to the list of passkeys in your settings.
Removing your device
If you need to remove your myVicRoads passkey from a device, go to the Profile & Settings tab in your myVicRoads account.
Log in to myVicRoads
To stay safe from fraud and scams, you should regularly check your passkeys and delete any devices you don’t recognise.
If you think someone may have access to your passkey, you should remove it from your account right away.
