Staff and Partner remote access

Remote Access allows approved staff and business partners to gain access to VicRoads network.

We’ve changed the way you remotely access the VicRoads Network to comply with new security standards. To access our network you must register your details on a new Multi-Factor Authentication portal. To register for Multi- Factor Authentication, you will need to provide your mobile phone number. Before providing your mobile number please read and accept the Terms and Conditions.

Who is covered by these Terms and Conditions?

These Terms and Conditions apply to any person who needs to access the VicRoads network remotely. This includes:
  • Individuals who register for remote access;
  • Any person who accesses VicRoads network remotely; and
  • Any entity on whose behalf an individual registers to access the VicRoads network remotely.

Multi Factor Authentication

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a method of computer access in which a user is only granted access after successfully presenting several separate pieces of evidence to authenticate the user. Typically, access is granted when a user provides evidence of something they know (i.e. A user name and password) and something they have (i.e. a unique code).

What will we use your mobile phone number for?

Users need to register for MFA if they want to access VicRoads Network remotely. When registerering for MFA, we will ask you for your mobile number so you can receive the verification code needed to complete the authentication process.. The Verification Code can be sent to your mobile device by text or via a mobile app.

Once you provide us with your mobile number, we will store this information in a secure server.

By allowing us to retain your mobile number, this means that we will not have to request your mobile number each time you want to gain remote access to the VPN.
The information you provide will only be used and disclosed to authenticate your identity as part of the MFA process and not for any other purpose.

Who will have access to my personal information?

The mobile number will only be used and disclosed by VicRoads and authorised contractors of VicRoads to include it on the MFA servers and to confirm Authentication Details.

What are your responsibilities?

It is your responsibility to ensure that you keep your user name, password and Verification Code confidential and secure. It is also your responsibility to prevent unauthorised access by ensuring that no other person can use your authentication details to access the VicRoads network.

In order to receive your verification code you must ensure that you are carrying your mobile phone, that it is charged, and can display messages and is in a service area.

If your mobile phone is lost, stolen or replaced, you must contact us immediately. VicRoads is entitled to assume that all transactions made using your Authentication Details are undertaken by you (unless VicRoads has reason to believe otherwise).
