St Kilda Road track maintenance road closure
From Sunday 27 June to 5am Monday 12 July, St Kilda Road will be closed to traffic between Flinders Street and Southbank Boulevard for essential tram track maintenance and renewal works.
Southbank Boulevard will also be closed between St Kilda Road and Sturt Street. No vehicle access will be permitted during this time.
What’s happening?
Works will be undertaken to replace tram tracks, poles and overhead wires along Swanston Street, St Kilda Road and Southbank Boulevard, and upgrades to Flinders Street Station tram stop.
Construction will take place 24 hours a day so that we can complete the works quickly. Noise and dust are unavoidable, however Yarra Trams will work to minimise this as much as possible and complete the noisiest works between 6am and 10pm.
Getting around
To support you to move around the area, detours and traffic management will be in place.
We recommend that road users allow extra travel time for their journey.
During works, the work zone will be fenced off for safety, however footpaths will remain open around the work area to allow pedestrian access to businesses and residences. Signage and wayfinding will direct pedestrians.
Information about bike detour routes will be available closer to works commencing.
Local access and parking
There will be no access for through and local traffic on St Kilda Road between Flinders Street and Southbank Boulevard, and on Southbank Boulevard between St Kilda Road and Sturt Street. Parking and local access will be reinstated when works are complete.
Local business
The businesses located around the works will remain open. Please continue to support local businesses during these essential works.
