To avoid your identity being stolen, you need to be careful with your personal information, including your driver licence.
The Victorian government Community Crime Prevention website has information on preventing and responding to identity fraud.
We’ve implemented protections for all Victorian licence holders by adding an additional security card number into the national Document Verification Service (DVS).
This means there are now two numbers on your driver licence – the licence number and the security card number.
The licence number always remains the same, but the security card number changes whenever your licence is renewed or replaced. This prevents fraudulent use of your previous licence information.
You may need to provide both your licence number and security card number for important financial transactions. This will act as an additional level of validation.
You can find your additional security card number:
For security reasons, we cannot provide you with your card number over the phone.
*Some businesses, such as banks, might require your card number for certain financial transactions.
