For other payment options and ways you can renew your registration see Pay your registration.
Note that it may take 1-2 days for your payment to be processed. Keep your receipt or payment reference number in case you need to show proof of payment.
You’ll receive your renewal notice about six weeks before your registration is due.
If you have a myVicRoads account, you’ll receive your notice via email. You can find a copy in the Notification section. If you don’t have an account, you’ll receive your notice in the post.
Make sure your contact details are up to date, so we can send you your renewal notice.
It’s your responsibility to keep your vehicle registration up to date – heavy fines apply if you drive an unregistered vehicle.
Whether you renew early, on time or late, your registration expiry cycle stays the same. This means the next registration period always starts from the previous expiry date – not the date the payment is made.

You can also choose to pay smaller amounts more often with short-term registration. If you don’t want to register your vehicle for 12 months, you can choose a shorter period and pay smaller amounts more often.
Note: Short-term registration is not available for light trailers, caravans, boats or other vessels.
To apply a term change to your next renewal, make sure you change it before your registration is due.
Your renewal fee is included on your notice. In Victoria, the cost includes a registration fee and a Transport Accident Commission (TAC) fee. Go to Fees and charges for more information.
If you have a valid concession, you may be able to get a discount. You can apply for a concession registration anytime, but it's best to do it before your vehicle registration renewal. Check if you’re eligible for a concession.
Unpaid fines can affect your registration renewal. Fines Victoria can apply sanctions on a driver licence or vehicle registration if you haven’t paid your fines. This can include a suspension on your registration.
If a Fines Victoria suspension applies to your registration, we will not send you a renewal notice.

To avoid sanctions affecting your registration, make sure you deal with your outstanding fines quickly or contact Fines Victoria if you are unable to pay.
Your Certificate of Registration is part of your renewal notice. You can download your most recent renewal notice, with your Certificate of Registration, in myVicRoads.
