Fees for different types of plates
Types of fees in the tables below:
- First issue fee: When you first register your vehicle or change your plates.
- Replacement fee: If your plates are lost, damaged, or stolen and you want to replace them with the same ones. Learn more at Replace lost, damaged, destroyed or stolen plates .

Interstate NHV plates
If you already have a NHV plate from another state, you won’t need to purchase new plates when moving to Victoria.
These plates are only available if you meet certain criteria.

A Transport Accident Commission (TAC) premium is payable except in the case of trailer or vessel plates. There are no fee concessions available for trade plates.
