Registration discounts with a Veterans Card Victoria (VCV)
Victoria thanks Australian Defence Force (ADF) members for their service. If you’re a current or former ADF member living in Victoria, you can access vehicle registration and licence discounts.
Here’s what you can get each year with your VCV:
- Up to $100 off per year on registration and renewal fees for one light motor vehicle.
- Free marine licence or renewal of a marine licence. This includes free addition of a personal watercraft (e.g. jet ski) endorsement.
- Free trailer registration.
- Free caravan registration.
Have a Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA) gold card or DVA written confirmation? Then you can also access these discounts. Visit Concession holder discounts to find out more.
For more information on the services available to veterans visit Veterans support and commemoration.
- You can apply the discount on a pro-rata basis for 3 and 6 month registrations. For example, $50 discount for 6 month registration.
- You can apply the discount to one light motor vehicle per veteran, used for personal, social or domestic purposes. A light motor vehicle includes a motorcycle and has a gross vehicle mass of 4.5 tonnes or less.
- You can’t apply multiple concessions or discounts to the same light motor vehicle registration.
- If you have more than one vehicle, you can’t apply the DVA discount to one vehicle and the VCV discount to the other.
- You can apply the discount to the vehicle of a spouse, domestic partner or carer of the VCV holder. Unless they’re already receiving another discount or concession on any light motor vehicle registered in their name.
- If you have both a DVA Gold Card and a VCV, you can’t apply the unused concession or discount to a partner or spouse’s vehicle.
- You can apply to your next marine licence renewal up to 6 months (not earlier) before the expiry date.
- A marine licence can only be issued for free on a yearly renewal basis. Your marine licence renewal notice won’t have the VCV discount applied. To get the free marine licence you need to apply for the VCV discount at each renewal.
- Issue of a marine licence or addition of personal watercraft endorsement is subject to applicant passing relevant testing.
- If you’ve used your DVA Gold Card for your motor vehicle, you can still apply the VCV concession to a trailer, caravan or marine licence.

Apply for your discount
Once you have your VCV, you can apply for the discount. Submit your application at least 5 business days before your registration is due, so we can make sure your discount is applied. We’ll validate your eligibility for the discount with Services Australia.
If you’ve already paid for the issue or renewal of your registration or licence before you apply for the discount, you can’t get a refund. But you’ll be able to use the concession card for future renewals.
