Change your registration period

You can choose between 3, 6 or 12 months for your renewal period. There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing between these options: 

• If you choose a shorter renewal period, this will apply to your next registration period. 
• Short-term registration is not available for light trailers, boats or other vessels.

The easiest way to change your registration period is through your myVicRoads account or in the app. Simply follow the steps below.

For private vehicles

1. Go to Vehicles & Registration in your account (or on the app). Don’t have an account? Sign up. 
2. Find your vehicle and click to ‘Change’ the registration period.
3.  Choose your preferred registration period and click 'Next'.
4. Review the details and then 'Confirm' the change.
5. Pay your registration if it's currently due for renewal.

Note: If your registration is due for renewal, you can only change the registration period online between:

• Monday to Saturday 7:30am - 8:15pm
• Sunday 12pm - 8:15pm.  

Alternatively, to change your registration period and pay your renewal you can:

• call us
• visit a VicRoads Customer Service Centre.

For business vehicles

1. Go to your list of vehicles in your business account. Don’t have an account? Submit a request.
2. Click to ‘Change’ the registration period of a vehicle in your holdings.
3. Select all vehicles you’d like the registration period change to apply to.
4. Choose your preferred registration period and click ‘Next’.
5. Review the details and then ‘Confirm’ the change.
6. Pay the registration if it’s due for renewal.

Note: If your registration is due for renewal, you can only change the registration period online between:

• Monday to Saturday 7:30am - 8:15pm
• Sunday 12pm - 8:15pm.  

Alternatively, you can visit a VicRoads Customer Service Centre to change your registration period and pay your renewal.

If you have one of the concessions or discounts below, you’ll still get a discount on your registration. The service fee will not apply to concession card holders.
